Hurricane Eta is the twelfth of the 2020 hurricane season. It was the tropical depression number 29 in the Caribbean and on November 2 it was upgraded to hurricane status.

Eta made landfall on the northeast coast of Nicaragua on November 3, near Puerto Cabezas. It is slowly moving west at a speed of 7 kilometers per hour. If the forecasts hold, Eta, or its remnants, could emerge into the western Caribbean Sea during the night of Thursday or Friday, where the environmental conditions will be favorable for its regeneration as a tropical cyclone.

The rains from Eta are already affecting Cuban territory, so the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology recommends maintaining close monitoring of the evolution of the meteorological situation.

Iota becomes the 31st hurricane of an unusually active season.
