Hurricane Elsa, the fifth named storm of the season, formed on the morning of Thursday, September 1, 2021, in the Atlantic, with Cuba and southern Florida in its uncertainty cone.

Elsa became the earliest fifth named storm recorded in the Atlantic since satellite monitoring began in 1966, according to the National Hurricane Center, and it is already the first hurricane of the 2021 Hurricane Season.
