The protests in Venezuela left an image that has gone around the world after a video was released in which a woman appears in front of a Chavista tank in a scene of defiance.
This unknown Venezuelan managed to push back the armed riot police vehicle, in a snapshot reminiscent of the man who stood in front of a column of tanks during the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests in China. Almost 30 years later it has been repeated but in different countries.
"On one occasion I approached to advise her to retreat, but she declined. First she was talking to the riot police asking them to stop repressing, then when she saw the tank she stopped in front of it. They gassed her, she never moved," explained the CNN en Español photographer, Horacio Siciliano.
The scene occurred last Wednesday during the day of demonstrations and riots that took place in the Venezuelan country, where government security forces used tear gas, pellets and tanks.
