WASHINGTON, Oct 11 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that they are aheadtough negotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), but that it is possible to reach an agreement and that he would study signing a trade pact with Canada and without Mexico.
During an appearance at the White House with the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, the American president was askedIf you thought NAFTA was dead, to which he responded: "We'll see what happens."
Trump said he could consider a deal with Canada and without Mexico.
"We'll see if we can make the kind of changes we need. We have to protect our workers and, to be fair, the prime minister also wants to protect Canada and its people. It has to be fair to both countries," he said.
