The statement condemns the violations of the rights of López Roque and all those detained who took to the streets on July 11th to call for change in Cuba, demanding their immediate release and an end to the repression of citizens.

"These criminal acts by the Cuban dictatorship highlight its stance towards citizens who seek their freedom in a peaceful and public manner," he added.

Finally, the UPLA urged the governments and parties in the region to address the situation in Cuba regarding human rights and to demand that the Havana regime release those detained for political reasons, particularly those who peacefully protested on July 11, and to put an end to the violence perpetuated by state institutions.

Arianna López Roque is a founder and member of the Julio Machado Academy of Civic Studies in Placetas, Villa Clara. She has organized campaigns for the freedom of political prisoners, as well as public protests, peaceful marches, hunger strikes, and sit-ins.

The young woman repeatedly reported police harassment and abuse by State Security officers against her family, activists, and Cuban opponents.

In 2018, he was accused of up to four alleged crimes for setting fire to the Constitution project that was approved in Cuba: disobedience, contempt, resistance, and disruption of public order.

The UPLA, the regional section of the International Democratic Union, is an organization of center-right political parties and movements in Latin America. It was established in 1992 with the aim of promoting and defending democracy and freedom in the countries of the region.
