The Cubana de Aviación airline canceled flights on the route between Havana and Nueva Gerona (HAV-GER-HAV) between February 8 and March 9 due to"technical reasons for the aircraft."
Passengers with tickets on the aforementioned dates will be contacted by sales representatives from the Cubana de Aviación office to"the application of the procedure established for these cases", according to a note signed by Rafael Fuentes Suero, director of the "Rafael Cabrera Montelier" Airport, in Gerona.
The official note does not offer other details about the solution that those affected will receive. Those who need more information can call 46324259 and 46321357 from 8 in the morning to 12 noon, and from 1 to 3 in the afternoon, Monday to Friday.
The temporary suspension of air service between Nueva Gerona and the Cuban capital takes place just three months after Cubana de Aviación announced theresumption of its domestic flights between both territories.
Domestic flights had remained suspended due to lack of fuel, forcing Cubana de Aviación to cut its frequencies.
However, at the beginning of November 2022, the Cuban airline announced the resumption of service with four weekly flights carried out by a twin-engine ATR model aircraft, with capacity for 72 passengers.
At that moment the news was received with relief by those who usually make that journey, althoughmany were suspicious of the safety of the aircraft.
Most of the transportation between the Isle of Youth and Havana is by sea, on catamarans. Service also affected by multiple technical defects in the vessels, which cause delays. Added to this are the frequent cancellations due to storm surges.
