The lack of means of transportation It continues to be the main reason why state wineries do not have the salt that is sold rationed to Cubans.

In the warehouses of the Cuban salt mines there are more than 9,500 tons of salt, ready for distribution, but the population must buy it in the informal market for about 150 pesos or in stores in freely convertible currency (MLC).

The least affected territories are those of the eastern region of Cuba, because almost all of the country's salt mines are located there, installed in that region due to the natural conditions required by this type of company (dry and windy), explained the official site. Cubadebate.

Although there is a salt mine in Matanzas, it is only possible to put it into operation in April, May, July and September, which is when there is the least rain and the most wind.

Jorge Luis Bell Álvarez, director of the Salt Company (ENSAL), told the Cuban state press that sThe salt corresponding to March was distributed.

The ports of Santiago de Cuba and Boquerón, in Guantánamo, already have the product and the unloading of a boat that will supply Cienfuegos, Villa Clara and Sancti Spíritus has begun.

More than 2,800 tons were destined for the western provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud will receive the salt in an independent shipment.

Bell Álvarez acknowledged that there may be some place where the product has not yet arrived.

The rationed sale of salt in Cuba depends on the number of people who make up a family unit, therefore those who have between one or two members can buy only one package every three months.

To cover the demand, it was indicated that each geomining company in Cuba would provide a truck to transport the salt that is in the warehouses and sell the kilogram at 25 CUP.

"The governments of the territories 'set the price to combat the inflation of the bag at the prices that are on the street today,' explained the director of ENSAL.
