Fort Lauderdale airport to remain closed due to heavy rain and flooding

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport remains closed this Thursday, after the Federal Aviation Administration ordered the suspension of flights due toadverse weather conditions due to heavy rains and floods.

"Entry roads are still closed until further notice. Road updates will be provided as more information becomes available," the airport said via Twitter.

Reports indicated that delays at the airport increased to 75 minutes on Wednesday afternoon before it was closed completely, disrupting all flight activity.

Airport officials confirmed that the airport will remain closed until at least noon due to flooding affecting roads, he explained.Local 10.

In another update, they announced that the airport's upper level road (departures) will reopen to allow travelers to be picked up by family and friends.

"The entrance to the lower level road (arrivals) is still closed," they noted.

Meanwhile, the airfield's upper level roadway has reopened to allow travelers to be picked up by friends and family, but the entrance to the lower level remains closed.

Drivers reported being stuck in their cars for hours due to flooded and closed roads.

Significant flooding was also reported near the airport's arrivals area. Flights have begun arriving and departing from Miami International Airport since then.

This week, significant flooding was reported in Florida, due to the rains that fell in the last few hours withstreet closures in different locations, such as Miami-Dade and Broward.
