The fatal accident has shocked millions of Chinese social media users, who are calling for better regulation in the industry. Weibo users commented that they had seen similar actions in the country, without a network or other security measures.

For its part, the local Department of Culture and Tourism declared that the group of artists had not obtained the corresponding permits to perform the circus act, and that therefore, they would be "treated accordingly."

A colleague who two months earlier lost his life during a Cirque du Soleil performance in the city of Tampa, Florida did not suffer the same fate.

With more than 15 years of experience in the company, the acrobat Yann Arnaud lost control while performing a stunt about 4.5 meters high and fell onto the stage in the middle of the Volta show. Hours later he died in the hospital.
