Young man creates "GTA Asere", a video game with a Cuban setting in the background

It will be realistic, with streets full of ditches and potholes, destroyed buildings, along with "beautiful places, millionaire areas so that the clearly marked class difference can be seen."

A young Cuban from Cárdenas, Matanzas, createdGTA Asere, a video game adapted from the popularGrand Theft Auto (GTA) San Andreas, with the Cuban reality as a backdrop.

Liván Alfonso, the creator behind theGTA Asere, he stated in an interview with the independent mediaCuban Diary that the scenario will be realistic, with streets full of ditches and potholes, destroyed buildings, along with "beautiful places, millionaire areas so that the clearly marked class difference can be seen."

In the young man's opinion, the Cuban GTA will also include "people and parties on the corners, electric motorcycles and motorbikes, patrol cars, puddles, buses, lines, full stops. We are going to reflect today's Cuba."

At the beginning of 2021, Alfonso was leading a team of collaborators who launched2K Cuba, a video game about Cuban pelota. Now, moved by the situation that the country is going through, he proposes another one that is easily accessible to Cubans.

"The idea is that it be mixed with current events that have been very relevant. It is not that we are going to have a mission to kill a leader, or to put a bomb in a supertank because that would not be good. The character's story will be of a person who returns to the country in search of resolving pending accounts and doing business," said the Cardenas native.

Without trying to politicize the game, they will try to insert political themes that are part of Cuban reality "and cannot be hidden."

The map will be made up of three cities: Havana, Matanzas and Cárdenas. Havana, because it is the Cuban capital; Cárdenas, because it is one of the busiest cities in the country.

In their opinion, the game will not be expensive but it will cost, to reward them for the investment of time, resources and internet.

Despite not having access to the game's original source codes, the Cuban intends to carry out an almost complete renovation to reflect today's Cuba.

Alfonso urged programmers who want to collaborate on the project to contribute with specialized topics that are beyond their competence.

The game, which is expected to be historic, could be ready within a year.
