A Cuban identified as Emir Castro González, 43, lost his life in a traffic accident that took place this Saturday in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Castro, a native of Cárdenas, Matanzas, and the father of two children, was riding a motorcycle on Dr. Sophie Redmond Avenue in front of a shopping center in the city on Saturday morning when the collision occurred. According to police reports cited by news outlets, the motorcyclist failed to yield and collided with a van that was crossing the road.

Castro's wife, Meysel Pereira, shared the news of his passing on her Facebook profile. "My heart is in mourning," she wrote from Cuba, and dozens of family members and friends expressed their condolences and conveyed their grief over the tragic event that has brought sorrow to this Cuban family.

The incident initially came to light in the group “Hispanos en Suriname,” where photos were shared showing the victim lying on the pavement after the accident. “Please share if anyone knows a Cuban who had an accident near the mall,” the post requested.

The images were censored by Facebook due to their explicit content, and Pereira requested that they be sent to her to verify if it was her husband.

A note from the independent media outlet Cubanos por el mundo expresses sorrow over the difficult moment Pereira is facing, along with his two younger children from the marriage, Yaimely and Yansay.

This tragic traffic accident adds to others in which Cuban immigrants have recently lost their lives.

The young father Omar Ortiz passed away in Atlanta, United States, just a day after arriving in the country in search of a better future to support his family in Cuba.

Days earlier, Abdel Pastor Romero, married and father of two teenagers, passed away in another traffic accident in Houston, Texas. He had arrived in the U.S. two months prior through humanitarian parole.

On February 3, nine Cuban immigrants lost their lives in a tragic accident on a road in Guatemala, a country they were passing through on their way to Mexico to continue their journey to the U.S. border. Only one of the Cubans survived.

Aramsai Adiena and Yusbel Rivero, a couple who had been living in the United States for just a year, lost their lives in January due to a car accident in Boston, Massachusetts, where they were visiting friends.

At just 25 years old, Liannet Russiel Urgellés passed away due to a collision that occurred in the early hours of December 31 in Lincolnton, North Carolina.
