He Inter Miami The 2024 season in Major League Soccer (MLS) began this Wednesday with a resounding victory over Real Salt Lake at Chase Stadium, on a night in which Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez commanded the offense of the Miami team, although neither of them scored goals.
The Miami team beat Real Salt Lake 2-0 with scores from Robert Taylor and Diego Gómez.
In addition to the debut of the Uruguayan Luis Suárez in the team, the game marked the reunion in a competition of four legendary men who shared the ranks of FC Barcelona: Leo Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
During the match, Messi and Suárez had their opportunities, but they lacked success.
Despite not scoring a goal, the Argentine star scored an assist on the first goal of the game. Messi provided a great service to Robert Taylor, who made it 1-0 in the 39th minute of the first half.
The Argentine had a couple more options, but he couldn't find the goal.
Like Messi, Suárez gave an assist in his first game in the MLS, specifically in the play for the Florida team's second goal, which in the 83rd minute was converted by Diego Gómez Amarilla.
The clearest opportunity for Suárez came in the second half, a few minutes after he came off as a substitute, but his shot was deflected by the opposing team's goalkeeper.
Despite the lack of goals from the two big stars, Miami fans -among whom was the actor Will Smith- celebrated his team's first victory in the new MLS season, in which Inter Miami starts as favorites.
Inter Miami's next game will be on Sunday, February 25 against the Los Angeles Galaxy, California.
