The constant presence of sexual harassers near the Finlay Avenue bridge in the city of Camagüey is a significant concern for women, who feel unprotected due to the lack of action from the local government.
"This photo was taken by my 14-year-old niece today at 7:30 in the morning while she was on her way to Cándido González High School," reported a concerned individual to journalist José Luis Tan Estrada, who shared this worry on the social media platform Facebook this Wednesday.
"This citizen goes out every morning and afternoon in any direction at this time and causes trouble," said the complainant, who added: "Many are afraid and run away because this area is full of this type of people."
"A day can end in something serious because they are being pursued, and no one does anything," the person pointed out, warning that the harassers operate with complete impunity, a situation that should be known to local authorities, who have done little or nothing in response to these incidents.
In this regard, Cuban journalist José Raúl Gallego emphasized that this situation is not new, pointing out that this area has always been known for the presence of harassers.
He also highlighted the regime's shocking indifference to this issue, considering that the area is adjacent to the military sector of the municipality of Camagüey, which has a sizable unit and a watch post specifically monitoring that area.
A person named Diana Pérez Carmenates commented on the post, warning that this situation is recurring in all educational institutions in Camagüey: "Even at the university itself, there are such individuals; often, it is the same professors who pursue it, yet no one ever files a complaint about this."
The young woman, who has been a victim of this type of situation, warned that it happens more frequently to women who are alone. "I always tell them things, and they flee, either on foot or by bicycle. There's one person who rides a racing bike, and the police don't take any action."
Additionally, the communicator Yosmany Mayeta reported that in the city of Santiago de Cuba, it is also common to see sexual harassers: “They are not only in parks but also near hospitals,” he pointed out.
The official Cuban press has raised concerns about the issue on more than one occasion; however, this problem is one of many that the regime fails to resolve.
A group of Cuban women shared their experiences of sexual harassment in public transportation in Havana with the official portal Cubadebate.
A young woman shared her unpleasant experience of seeing a man in his fifties masturbating behind her on a P9. Although four years have passed, the memory still makes her feel bad.
The newspaper 5 de Septiembre published a report highlighting the alarming number of individuals (mostly men) who engage in public masturbation in view of their victims (almost always female) in the city of Cienfuegos.
The state-run media called on the regime to take strong action to curb the rise of public masturbation in that city.
