The shortage of spare parts, the poor condition of Cuban roads and the lack of maintenance on vehicles belonging to state companies are among the causes of the majority of accidents suffered by public means of transportation.
“Unfortunate accident. Luckily the driver and passengers did not suffer major injuries. If that happens on the bridge, the story would be different," commented a user in the publication, showing that chance intervened in the most favorable way, since if it had happened while crossing a bridge, the exit from the road would have been cause of a tragedy.
Others referred to problems with the maintenance of the EPTH buses. “The spring leaves have to be put in new ones. These welds will bring consequences and loss of human life. Take measures, they are on time.”
“I keep asking myself: Are state and private transportation no longer inspected or reviewed before going out on the street? There are accidents that we can avoid,” said another user.
The day before, a garbage collection truck belonging to the provincial directorate of Communal Services of Havanasuffered an accident and ended up hitting a bridge, causing considerable damage to the vehicle cabin.
Users pointed to a failure in the truck's steering as a possible cause of the accident. The alleged lack of maintenance of the vehicle would have caused the accident and the injuries suffered by the two occupants of the truck, who had to be taken to the hospital.
