The Cuban bar Café La Trova on 8th Street in Miami is once again among the 50 best in North America this 2024, according to the list prepared by the magazine 50 Best, which takes into account the opinion of 270 experts from Mexico, the United States and Canada.
In its third year, the list highlights the exemplary cocktail culture that prevails in the North American scene and includes in the 13th place to Café La Trova, for being "a celebration of Cuban and bar culture" and "the closest you can get to the Caribbean from the United States," thanks to its upbeat music, exemplary bites, and a small army of waiters in morning coats serving daiquiris.
The publication explains that the bar was inaugurated by Julio Cabrera, winner of the 2023 Roku Industry Icon Award and a famous ambassador of Cuban culture in the world of cocktails.
In 2019, the Cuban opened "Café La Trova, a virtual embassy of the culinary culture of his native island in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami."
He emphasizes that upon entering the establishment, one feels transported to the Caribbean through sight and taste.
"The bar team follows the traditional (and theatrical) bartender style created by Constantine Ribalaigua at Havana's El Floridita. Typically, the bartenders are busy tossing Hotel Nacionals (rum, apricot liqueur, pineapple juice and lime juice) into the air. ) or spectacularly shaking Magic City Daiquiris (rum, lime juice, sugar and "elixir of life")".
On its Instagram account, Café La Trova celebrated reaching 13th place on the list.
"We are delighted and grateful to have once again been named one of North America's @50bestbars this year, at number 13! It is an immense honor to represent our community on this global stage, and we are committed to continuing to deliver exceptional experiences to all our guests. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and tireless efforts of our phenomenal staff, who continually strive for excellence in service! Let's celebrate this incredible milestone together!
The 50 Best list was compiled by William Reed Ltd, the same creators of the influential World's 50 Best Restaurants and World's 50 Best Bars lists.
It is based on a survey of more than 270 experts in North America, and has quickly become a highly anticipated event in the world of drinks, similar to winning a Michelin star for a restaurant.
They chose Handshake Speakeasy in Mexico City as the best bar in the North American region (Mexico, USA and Canada), which is hidden behind an enigmatic black door in Colonia Juárez.
"Copper arches frame the bar and the long marble counter sits in front like an altar to the cocktail. The devil is in the details: in the signature silver accessories, in the mini cocktails and in the under-bar cooling system that ensures that each glass stays ice cold," he points out.
In 2022 the Café La Trova bar was also included in the list of 50 Best, and this year it was selected among the best in the United States by the magazine Food &Wine.
