The Cuban government announced the suspension of flights between Cuba and Argentina after the South American country's oil company informed the Cubana de Aviación airline that it would not give more fuel to its planes.
For the Castro regime, this is an "arbitrary" measure that shows the validity of the US embargo and its extraterritorial nature, in addition to the fact that it contravenes the rules of international trade.
"As a result, Cubana de Aviación has been forced to suspend regular flights between Cuba and Argentina, which had been maintained for 39 years," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX).
The organization issued a statement in which he attacks the majority state-owned Argentine company Yacimientos Petrolófilos Fiscales (YPF), which he accuses of violating its own national legislation.
"The failure to comply with the contract by the Argentine company, in addition to causing damage to Cubana de Aviación, will harm the Argentine citizens themselves and other travelers, including those who had air tickets purchased to and from Cuba," the text states.
MINREX assured that Cubana de Aviación sought "innumerable alternatives to maintain the operations that were already planned and authorized," such as contracting other airlines to cover those flights and not affect passengers. But he added that "he did not receive a satisfactory response that would ensure the sale of fuel."
"It is contradictory that freedom is proclaimed at all costs while the freedom of a company that rigorously complies with the regulatory provisions of Argentina and the International Civil Aviation Organization is limited," stressed the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
Last April 24 Cubana de Aviación canceled its flights between Havana and Buenos Aires after the fuel supply companies in Argentina refused to provide service, alleging the provisions of the United States embargo against the Island.
The airline then stated that the measure also affected other airlines contracted by Cubana to transport the affected passengers, so that they had not been able to fulfill the commitments made to the travelers.
Cubana de Aviación resumed the connection between Havana and Buenos Aires in May 2023 after the suspension adopted due to the pandemic. It also restarted flights from Argentina to Cayo Coco and with a final destination in Havana.
The number of Argentine travelers to Cuba increased by 44% between January and March 2024, a period in which 12,753 Argentine tourists visited the Caribbean nation.
