An audio recording on tape, capturing a concert by Celia Cruz at an iconic bar in the United States, will be presented on May 24th.
The audio was in the hands of the South Florida radio host Albertico Rodríguez, who, while cleaning out his closet last year, found it and brought it to Omer Pardillo Cid, the trustee of Cruz's estate, and to Nelson Albareda, owner of Loud and Live, the company that represents the estate of "the Cuban Celia".
The recording features a live show at the now-defunct Casanova Club in Miami, and according to the writing on the tape case, it was around the years 1986 or 1987.
After the recording was digitized, they found an audio of great quality.
"I didn't cry, but I was clearly emotional," Albareda told Billboard magazine. This man worked with Cruz as a young assistant when she began in the music business over three decades ago.
"Not only is the recording quality excellent, but it also had hits like 'Quimbara'," he anticipated.
All this recording will be available starting on May 24th with a digital album titled: "Live: 100 Years of Sugar," which will mark the beginning of the celebration of the centenary of Celia Cruz's birth.
With nine tracks, including "Quimbara", the collection will feature a photo book, and additional exclusive photos of Cruz that can be framed.
Celia Cruz Alfonso was born on October 21, 1925 in Cuba and died on July 16, 2003 in the USA, as a result of a brain tumor.
Known as the "Queen of Salsa," she took her music to the world with the Fania All-Stars, received numerous accolades, including multiple platinum and gold records, three Grammy awards, four Latin Grammy awards, the Presidential Medal of the Arts, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
