A blackout that occurred on Sunday affected the "Ramón González Coro" Gynecology and Obstetrics Teaching Hospital in Havana, where apparently there is no functioning backup generator that should be activated in these situations.
Several women, some pregnant and others who have recently given birth, wrote to the independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, denouncing that the lack of electricity was causing havoc among patients, including sick babies.
"We have been without power for over an hour, the heat is killing us, and there are children here who need oxygen to survive," said a pregnant young woman in the video shared by the reporter on Facebook.
In the video sent, you can see several ambulances that were sent to the center in case it was necessary to urgently transfer a child or a woman in labor.
"The rocking horse exploded twice and they haven't fixed it, and the hospital's power plant is not working," reported the video's author.
About 10 days ago, patients and companions at the Oncology Hospital in Santiago de Cuba reported a power outage that started in the afternoon and lasted several hours.
According to journalist Mayeta Labrada, the explanation they were given was that the power plant or generator did not have the necessary oil, so they would have to work without electricity for a few hours.
"The nurses and we are lighting ourselves with the phone's flashlight," denounced an affected person.
More than a hundred people commented indignantly on the publication, concerned about the situation of cancer patients, many of whom depend on electronic devices for their treatments.
"I just have one question... And how do they maintain patients who are on life support? Because there may be some cases that are at risk. The problems with the electricity supply are known and understood, but these hospital sectors should not lack electricity due to the life-threatening situation of their patients," stated internet user Ernesto de La Paz Gonzáles.
