The state-run channel Tele Turquino, based in Santiago de Cuba, published a message on social media this Monday, explaining to users the importance of saving electricity and emphasizing the need to avoid wasteful consumption.
"Savings means doing things efficiently, not wasting, spending only what is absolutely necessary," the television station expressed on Facebook, a message that internet users found ironic and out of place, given that Santiago de Cuba, along with the central and eastern provinces of the country, suffers the longest power outages.
"Using energy-saving bulbs, they illuminate just like incandescent ones but consume less energy," is stated in the image.
Another irony is that, currently, the only place where these types of light fixtures are sold is in MLC stores, at unaffordable prices, and even there they are not always available.
A person named Amaya Llopiz Montero asked, “Is this serious? Please, don't make fun of us; we are really crossing the line here.”
Lázaro Rosales Cárdenas also noted that "for that reason, it's preferable not to go live in the jungle," as he deemed it unfair "to give up the little bit of electricity that we are entitled to."
Last Tuesday, the Castro commander Ramiro Valdés called on Cuban families to save electricity amid the serious energy crisis affecting the country.
While participating in a session of the National Energy Council, based at the Electric Union (UNE), Valdés conveyed a message to families to "make rational use of energy wherever they may be."
