Obama defends Biden after failing in the debate with Trump: "Bad nights happen"

A faction of the Democratic Party has mobilized to support Biden after the disastrous debate; while others have suggested that perhaps it would be appropriate for him to step aside.

Barack Obama came out on Friday in defense of President Joe Biden after his failure in the CNN debate with Donald Trump, and stated that "bad nights just happen."

Bad nights of debate are happening. Trust me, I know. But this election remains a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary people all their life, and someone who only cares about themselves. Between someone who tells the truth, who distinguishes between right and wrong and will give it directly to the American people, and someone who lies through their teeth for their own benefit. That didn't change last night, and that's why so much is at stake in November," the former president expressed on his X account.

The former president pointed out the contrast between Biden and Trump, a strategy that other Democrats have been following since Thursday night's debate, where Biden appeared imprecise at key moments and failed to articulate essential differences with Trump.

Part of the Democratic party has mobilized to support Biden after the disastrous debate; while others have suggested that maybe it would be appropriate for him to step aside and look for another candidate.

Former President Bill Clinton also weighed in on Friday afternoon, saying in a post on X that Biden has "given us 3 years of strong leadership" and that "That's what's really at stake in November," Clinton said.

Voters, for their part, have expressed concerns about Biden's age, who acknowledged in a speech on Friday that he no longer debates as well as he used to but knows "how to do this job."

"I am no longer a young man, I do not walk as freely as before. I do not speak with the eloquence of before. I do not debate as well as before, but I know what I do know: I know how to speak the truth. I know how to distinguish between good and evil. And I know how to do this job, I know how to get things done. And I know what millions of Americans know: that when you fall down, you get back up," he expressed.

Biden was the Vice President of the United States during Obama's two terms, and they are both connected by a strong bond of admiration and respect.

On Thursday, Joe Biden and Donald Trump faced off in a historic debate, in which the whole world could see the White House chief being somewhat imprecise, at times stuttering and displaying unstable behavior, sometimes stammering and at other times remaining silent for periods, raising alarms.
