Cuban former baseball player Vladimiro Torres passed away on Saturday in a traffic accident in his home province of Holguín.
The news of his death was announced on Facebook by Leonardo Alberto Paris Johnson, the baseball commissioner of the province, who extended his condolences to family and friends.
The 33-year-old former pitcher died at night in an accident that occurred on the Holguín bypass near the road to Mayarí, close to the vocational school.
The journalist Maikel Hernández shared photos on Facebook taken at the scene, showing a Diana bus with significant damage to the front and another vehicle.
Vladimiro Torres was the bus driver.
In addition to him, two other people lost their lives instantly in the accident, as revealed by the user Irma Broek on Facebook.
Specialized journalist Yasel Porto recalled that the athlete was once regarded as one of the best pitching prospects in Cuba.
"Torres played in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons with the Cachorros, and in 2011-12 with the Avispas. He did not earn any decisions in the National Series," he detailed on his Facebook.

According to reports, the bus driven by the former player collided with a truck around 9:30 PM at the end of the bypass.
"The truck did not stop, and the bus collided with it," he noted.
Hundreds of people have expressed their condolences on social media for the death of Vilito, as he was known by his closest friends.
