A young Cuban transgender woman admitted that she prostitutes herself to gather money to leave the country, where she emphasizes there is no life for anyone, but even less for her, who in addition to the problems that everyone faces, suffers constant discrimination.
Vanessa Aballes Cruz recounted in heartbreaking statements to Cubanet the way she was treated by the police after being assaulted and beaten near Coppelia a few days ago.
Aballes Cruz reported that upon arriving at a police station to report a robbery and assault, she was treated discriminatorily.
"I am characterized as what I was before, not as what I am now," said the young woman in reference to her name change, of which she feels very proud.
"They treated me poorly and judged me, how? Like a fag," said Vanessa bitterly, who claims that since the beating she received on the street, she has been left with a trauma that makes her afraid to even step outside."
This country is sh*t... There is no life and that is truly what my heart says. There is no life here. This government, this discrimination... This is not life for anyone. Nobody wants to live here. I am making money to leave," added the young woman, who referred to the bleak future awaiting her in Cuba as a transgender person.
One wants to look pretty, look good, have surgery, fight for their dream. What am I going to be able to do here? What am I going to build here? Nothing is built here, there is no future for anything here," she stressed.
Originally from the municipality of Majibacoa, in the province of Las Tunas, Vanessa Aballes referred to her official name change as being born again and being able to materialize who she really was.
However, she regrets that this name change is only accompanied by discrimination and rejection from society, from the authorities who do not leave her alone, and even from her own family.
"I came to Havana to seek a life, to try to change my life, to fight to leave, to give myself a better future," confesses the young woman sincerely, who recommends other people like her to leave the country so they can fulfill their dream.
In the comments section of the YouTube post containing the touching testimony, dozens of people lamented the reality of young people in Cuba and confirmed that leaving the country is the only promise of a dignified life change under the current conditions on the island.
