Three members of a Cuban family residing in Florida died in a traffic accident that occurred last Wednesday in Boynton Beach; only the youngest child survived.

The deceased are Alex Cordoves, 46 years old; his wife Grechy Yanela Almaguer Pérez, 43; and their son Diego, 10 years old, all originally from Holguín.

The only one who survived is Fabio, who is two years old.

The four were in a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta when they were struck by a 2020 Lexus RX350, traveling at high speed and driven by a 54-year-old woman named Dawn Howard.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO), county fire officials declared Grechy Yanela dead at the scene. The older child was taken to Delray Medical Center, where his death was confirmed. Alex, who was driving the car, suffered an internal decapitation, where the neck separates from the spinal cord, and he is not expected to survive.

The youngest child suffered a fracture of the right tibia and is currently hospitalized at the Delray Beach Medical Center.

The person responsible for the accident sustained minor injuries and was admitted to the same hospital under police surveillance.

According to the PBSO report consulted by CBS12, the woman refused to go to the room’s bathroom accompanied by an officer, attempted to evade her, and even struck her on the wrist. As a result, she was restrained and handcuffed to the bed, and has been charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Relatives of the deceased opened an account on the digital platform GoFundMe to raise money for the funerals.

Arsenio Almaguer, brother of Grechy Yanela, revealed that the person responsible for the car accident was drunk and crashed into his family's car from behind.

"It caused the immediate death of my sister and my nephew. My brother-in-law is in a state of brain death; he only breathes while connected to a machine. This has left our little Fabio behind, my two-year-old nephew who survived and is fighting for his life, which will never be the same without his parents," he stated.

"This unfortunate car accident destroyed this family in an instant, and I would like to say a respectful goodbye to them. My sister was a loving and devoted mother who lived for her family, which is still my family even now that they are no longer here," he added.

The campaign aims to raise $15,000. At the time of writing this note, $9,410 has already been donated.

"Please help me with any generous amount, or share this post so that my family can have a funeral they deserve," pleaded the campaign creator.
