A Cuban man, along with four other men, was involved in a brawl with stones and knives on a beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, resulting in injuries to his head and limbs; however, he was arrested by the police for attempted homicide, tumultuous brawl, threats, and injuries.
In addition to the 18-year-old Cuban whose identity has not been revealed, the officers arrested three other individuals involved in the brawl: a 32-year-old Colombian and two Argentinians, aged 31 and 32, who also suffered injuries. Their names were not disclosed either.
The events took place on Saturday, July 6th, after seven in the evening, when about five individuals engaged in a brutal fight at the crowded Playa de las Burras, located between the neighborhoods of Las Galletas and El Fraile, according to a statement on the local police blog.
The images of the violent dispute, in which knives were brandished and stones were thrown, were shared by the police.
In the video, bathers -including small children- are seen shocked by the scene, while a woman can be heard shouting: "Oh... he's going to kill him!", and then, begging insistently: "Call the police! Call the police, please! Call the police, don't record!"
At 7:25 p.m., the Local Police of Arona received multiple alert calls about the large brawl, and a patrol car went to the scene. The involved parties fled on foot upon seeing the police car arriving, but with the help of witnesses, the officers located two of them about 200 meters away.
The Cuban had a large bleeding wound on his head and injuries to his extremities, as indicated by the police report. He and the Colombian man told the officers that they had been attacked by three young men, one of whom was carrying a large knife.
They also stated that two of the alleged attackers had escaped from the scene, but one of them was still on the beach.
The police report states that apparently, the night before, the three alleged attackers had tried to enter the house of the young Cuban and "threatened him with death."
However, the agents found a large knife on the Cuban, which he had tried to get rid of when he saw the officers.
Four patrol vehicles from the Local Police of Arona and one from the Civil Guard managed to locate the 31-year-old Argentine on the beach, who had a puncture wound on his face, apparently caused by a screwdriver.
A fourth person involved in the fight, also of Argentine origin, was found in the El Fraile neighborhood. The man also had injuries resulting from the fight.
The four men were assisted by Basic Life Support ambulance personnel, and then transferred to healthcare centers where they received specialized medical care.
After receiving medical assistance, they were arrested by the agents and accused of the crimes of tumultuous brawl, threats, and injuries. The Cuban and the Colombian also face the charge of attempted homicide.
The arrested individuals were taken to the Main Post of the Civil Guard in Playa de Las Américas, where they were held in jail awaiting judicial disposition.
