Cuban father calls for stricter laws after his son is killed in a fight

They commit a crime and are sentenced to 10 years with visits, in a pavilion; after three years, they are back on the streets and are welcomed by relatives and neighbors with an activity that even blocks the street. That's why they continue to rob and kill.

Dagner Lara Villalón's father, the 18-year-old young man who was murdered two weeks ago in a fight that occurred at a street party in Santiago de Cuba, called for stricter laws for criminals.

Daniel Lara Cleger, an employee at a gas station in the municipality, received the news of his son's death on Father's Day.

In a brief text shared on his Facebook wall, he asked the authorities for those who commit such serious crimes to be severely punished, not to have so many privileges in prison, and to serve the full sentence.

I ask the Cuban government to make the laws stricter, stronger. They commit a crime, and they are given a penalty, for example, of 10 years; they have visits, a pavilion, they put them to work and after three years, they are on the streets and their family and neighbors welcome them with an activity that even blocks the street as if they were returning from a mission. That is why they continue assaulting and killing," he questioned.

Impose life imprisonment. The Cuban government has to find a solution to this so that crime does not continue to increase and families do not suffer more due to murders or assaults. Also, implement executions. I hope the Minister of Justice reads this.

The fight in which Dagner Lara died took place on the central street Trocha, where he and another young man were attacked with bladed weapons. Dagner was left lying on the street, bleeding from a stab wound in the back. Later, both were taken to the Joaquín Castillo Duany Military Hospital.

The boy lived in the neighborhood of Agüero, in the vicinity of the José Martí Urban Center. His mom's name is Yuleidi Villalón Suárez and she works in the government of Santiago de Cuba, as do other relatives.
