Help is sought for a girl in extreme poverty in Camagüey: “Camila survives thanks to solidarity.”

Ten-year-old Camila lives with her father, who suffers from vision problems. The little girl survives thanks to the support of her neighbors.

In the San Miguelito neighborhood of Camagüey, Camila, a 10-year-old girl, lives in extreme poverty with her father, who has serious vision problems, and urgently needs help, as reported by internet users on social media, since her survival relies on the solidarity of their neighbors.

The Camagüey journalist José Luis Tan Estrada explained on Facebook that after becoming aware of the case, he visited the area to verify the accuracy of the post circulating on social media.

"I spoke with a neighbor who is practically taking care of Camila," said Tan, noting that Camila lives on 2nd Street, #29, between 1st and 2nd transversal, Reparto Miguelito, Camagüey.

"At this moment, she has no clothing, shoes, or adequate food," the journalist stated, warning that Camila lives with her father, who has serious vision problems and cannot care for her. "Thanks to this neighbor, Camila is surviving," he noted.

The activist emphasized that he will soon make a post with more details, in order to "help the girl in every way we can."

The original post, also shared by journalist Tan, requested donations of "some clothing and shoes" for Camila.

The request emphasized that she lives alone with her father, who has vision problems, highlighting that they are a low-income family. "Please, if anyone could help him with a few things, I would be very grateful," noted the person who brought the case to attention.

Recently, another act of solidarity transcended Cuba's borders with the donation of a gas stove to an elderly couple in need.

The gesture of solidarity was carried out through the initiative "Breath of Life," spearheaded by activist Yankiel Fernández.

"Last Thursday, we were fortunate to continue our assistance this time with a gas stove that our collaborator from the U.S. sent us for a couple among our elderly who had a broken stove and had been unable to cook for several days," noted the promoter and liaison of the charitable initiative on Facebook.

Recently, a group of Cuban activists from the citizen initiative "Huellas" provided a basket, made from donations, to a teenager in Santiago de Cuba with limited resources who faced a high-risk pregnancy.

Bricella Hernández expressed her gratitude on Facebook to everyone who supported the initiative that ensured donations reached the 13-year-old first-time mother, who had a high-risk pregnancy.

The Cuban Observatory of Human Rights, in its VII Report on the State of Social Rights in Cuba 2024, presented revealing results about the reality in Cuba.

The non-governmental organization highlighted in the document that "89% of Cuban families suffer from extreme poverty," an increase of one percentage point compared to last year and 13% more than in 2022.
