Paris 2024: Guatemala conquers its first Olympic gold in history.

It was shooter Adriana Ruano, who not only achieved the first Olympic gold for Guatemala but also set a record at the event.

The sports shooter Adriana Ruano became the first gold medalist for Guatemala in an Olympic Games, reaching the top of the podium in the women's trap at Paris 2024.

Ruano not only achieved the feat for his country, but also with the 45 successes obtained, he set an Olympic record for this sport.

This has been Guatemala's third medal in the Olympic Games and the second achieved in Paris 2024, after the bronze in the men's shooting pit by male shooter Jean Pierre Brol.

Ruano, 29 years old and born in Guatemala City, had a poignant moment during the awards ceremony when she brought a photo of her father, who passed away in 2021.

In the image, the Guatemalan can be seen receiving a kiss from her father, a gesture of gratitude that she shares by holding the photograph alongside her gold medal.

The athlete began practicing sport shooting at the end of 2012, after having ventured into artistic gymnastics, but a serious spinal injury separated her from that sport just as she was about to seek qualification for the London 2012 Olympics.

At the Rio 2016 Games, she volunteered specifically in the shooting field, recalls the website olympics.com.

With this medal, Adriana Ruano joins a small list of Central American women with medals in the Olympic Games.
