The state of Florida allocated funds to the Miami-Dade school board to teach classes on the history of Cuba and exile in the county's schools.

This effort aims to educate students about the rich and complex history of the island, as well as the experiences and sacrifices of the exiled community since 1959, reported América TeVe.

State legislators Alex Rizo and Ana María Rodríguez presented a check to José Dotres, the school superintendent, in a ceremony held at the Museum of the Cuban Diaspora.

These funds will allow teachers to receive the necessary training to effectively teach the subject.

"It is an extremely important step for our children not only to know the sacrifices we had to make in exile but also to understand how a prosperous country can be lost and become a dictatorship in just one generation," stated Marcel Felipe, president of the Inspira América Foundation.

He said that the initiative is not only for the benefit of the Cuban community in Miami, but for all students in the county, with a wide Latin representation.

This project will provide new generations with a deeper understanding of their heritage and the challenges we have faced to be here, said Felipe.

Also in April, a law was signed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, which requires public schools in the state to teach the history of communism accurately and its horrific consequences.
