Katerina Puig, the teenager who survived and became disabled after a serious boating accident in Miami, managed to graduate from high school in a very emotional ceremony.

Puig was in a coma for three months after suffering an accident on a boat in the Intracoastal Waterway area near Boca Chita Key on September 4, 2022.

This incident caused very serious injuries to her brain, so she was unable to finish her year. However, during the graduation of her classmates from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in 2023, the teachers awarded her an honorary certificate.

However, the teenager was not satisfied and in this past year, she alternated classes with rehabilitation therapies.

"In the end, she managed to write the answer on many of the exams," Kathy's mother, Kathya Pino, told Telemundo.

On September 4, 2022, at 6:30 p.m., a 29-foot boat with 14 occupants on board hit a channel marker or buoy in the intracoastal waterway near Boca Chita Island off the coast of Miami.

The impact caused a hole in the side of the vessel, and several passengers fell into the water.

Luciana Fernández, a 17-year-old high school senior, passed away the following day due to the injuries sustained in the accident.

The main accused of the accident was pointed out as the Miami real estate developer George Pino, 52 years old, who Kathy's parents accused of drinking before the accident and said that he and his wife gave alcohol to the teenagers.

Recently it was revealed that Cecilia Pino, George's wife, agreed to pay the sum of 16 million dollars for said lawsuit.
