The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, announced this Thursday that he will grant an $8 million subsidy to support the construction of the new stadium for Inter Miami CF, Miami Freedom Park.

The news was revealed during a joint press conference with the football club, where the Republican was also joined by the owner of Inter Miami, David Beckham, and the managing owners of the club, Jorge and José Mas.

The $8 million subsidy provided by the state government represents a significant investment in the future of the team and in local economic development, aiming to boost both entertainment and urban growth in Miami-Dade, the governor emphasized.

The new stadium, Miami Freedom Park, will have a capacity of 25,000 spectators and is scheduled to open in 2026.

This facility will be part of the ambitious $1 billion development that will also include a 58-acre public park and an entertainment district.

The construction of the stadium began in August 2023, and an inauguration ceremony is expected to take place at the end of this year. Meanwhile, Inter Miami will play at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale until at least the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.

In addition to DeSantis, the press conference was attended by Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez, Florida Secretary of Commerce Alex Kelly, and key figures from Inter Miami CF.

Inter Miami, currently the leader of the Eastern Conference of the MLS with a record of 16 wins, 5 draws, and 4 losses, has accumulated a total of 53 points.
