The Cuban content creator, leyanet_comedy, responded to a comment on TikTok that criticized the use of certain expressions or colloquial words from Cuba.
"In which part of Europe do you live? Because that vulgar slang is not used anywhere in this part. It's only the lowliness that came from Cuba, but not from Cuba itself," was the comment that prompted his response.
"Well my love, first of all, I live in Sweden... the vulgar slang does not characterize any person. You can be the son of a prince, an engineer, a doctor, whatever you want, but we carry this in our blood and as Cubans, we will always say it," expressed leyanet_comedy in her video. "I don’t say 'asere qué bolá,' nor do I say anything like that, but when I have to say it, I say it because I am Cuban and Cuba will never leave me."
The creator's response quickly received support from other Cuban users on the platform: "Proud to be Cuban," "Good response, I applaud you"; "It's in our blood, buddy," some told her.
This debate is not new on TikTok. Recently, a young Cuban residing in Germany also defended the use of Cuban slang in a video that generated numerous reactions. "I am Cuban, I live in Germany, and I clearly speak like a Cuban, think like a Cuban, and walk like a Cuban," he declared on his profile "Tips de Cubanos."
On the other hand, the young Malia Llovet, also Cuban, reflected in one of her videos on why she does not use the word 'asere' and instead uses 'caballero'.
This latest video from leyanet_comedy has once again brought to the center of the debate how the Cuban diaspora keeps its cultural roots alive, regardless of the country in which they find themselves.
