Cuban authorities informed about the works being carried out in the tunnel of Fifth Avenue in Havana, which will remain partially closed until August 31.
The Minister of Transport, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, detailed on his Facebook wall that the work includes patching, cleaning and unclogging the three grid batteries, as well as the removal of old tiles and placement of tiles on damaged walls.
The lighting will be explored to determine the placement of new fixtures, walls, beams, and curbs will be repaired, traffic lights and vertical signs will be adjusted, and light catchers will be installed.
The leader noted that it is also necessary to repair the metal grates found at the pedestrian crossings.
The works began on the 14th and are expected to finish on Saturday, August 31. In the Playa-Plaza de la Revolución direction, they will last until August 21, and on the 23rd, they will start in the opposite direction.
To ensure mobility during those days, drivers are recommended to use the following alternative routes:
-From Playa to Plaza: Avenues 41, 31, 7th up to Línea.
-From Plaza to Playa: Streets Línea, 23, 31, and 41.
It was clarified to pedestrians that the tunnel will remain open for crossing in the direction where maintenance is not being performed.
The Quinta Avenida tunnel connects the Playa and Plaza de la Revolución municipalities.
The repair will be the responsibility of the Basic Unit of Tunnel Exploitation, the Mipymes ENCONAT, and other entities.
Rodríguez Dávila emphasized that "it does not have the complexity of the one carried out in the bay tunnel of Havana."
