A 36-year-old Cuban was killed last Saturday during a party in the town of Chile, part of the municipality of San Luis, in Santiago de Cuba.
The victim, identified as Luis Ángel García Torres, received "two machete blows from behind while dancing with his wife," reported user Yordan Roque Álvarez, administrator of the Facebook group "Revolico San Luis."
According to the source, the murderer identified himself as the son of Cheo Morales (from the Morales of that town) and the attack allegedly stemmed from "a settling of scores" from a previous altercation.
The news was confirmed by several neighbors of the town and acquaintances of Luis Ángel, who mourned the man's death, who reportedly was also a father.
"I am receiving this news with tremendous pain and a broken heart because he was not only a friend, but he was also one of the best students I ever had, rest in peace Luisito," wrote a person in the comments section.
"Luisito, may God keep you in glory, and the people of Chile will remember you for a lifetime," expressed another internet user.
"You didn't deserve to die like this, Cuba has to take a hard line on all the crimes that are committed, how much longer will families cry over the level of violence, and let the weight of the law fall on that murderer," requested another user.
A relative of the deceased regretted not having been able to meet earlier and receiving the news of his murder.
"My cousin, it's been so long since we last saw each other, and now look at this sad news, how sad it is, my cousin, may God keep you in His kingdom," he noted.
A study friend of Luis Ángel also expressed her sorrow for the loss: "Rest in peace Luis, my schoolmate, how great the pain is to hear such heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences to your mom, your sisters, and the whole family."
Days after the incident, there is no statement from local authorities or the police indicating whether the killer has been apprehended.
The murder of this Cuban adds to many others that have occurred in Cuba in recent times, whether due to revenge, unresolved past issues, or being in the wrong place.
Ten days ago, the murder of a 23-year-old Cuban young man named Usiel Quesada Florat was reported. He was with a friend socializing at a place known as Carpa de Jayamá, in front of the Hotel Camagüey, when he was attacked with a knife from behind.
Another young Cuban, a resident of Sancti Spíritus and identified as Hansel, was also murdered recently.
A Guantanamo resident in Havana was murdered on the night of Tuesday, August 13, during the festivities leading up to the San Joaquín Carnival 2024, which took place from August 15 to 18 in Guantánamo.
The victim, known as "Negrón," was stabbed by a former inmate identified as "Pito" on Carlos Manuel street, corner of Pinto, while participating in the public celebrations.
