The Mega Millions jackpot surged to $527 million ($261.9 million in cash) for this Friday's drawing. If there is a winner, it would be the thirteenth largest prize ever awarded by the lottery of this game in its history.

The fortunate individual can choose between receiving annual payments for 29 years or a single sum of $261.9 million. To win, they would have to correctly guess the five numbers and the golden ball.

The jackpot increased after there was no winner last Tuesday, when the white balls 5, 20, 26, 49, and 51 were drawn, along with the golden Mega Ball 24.

According to Mega Millions on their website, on Tuesday the 20th, although no one won the jackpot, there were 945,350 winning tickets at other prize levels.

Two tickets won the second level prize in the game by matching the five white balls. One, sold in Delaware, is worth four million because it included the optional Megaplier (which requires an additional $1 purchase), which was quadrupled. The other was sold in Arizona and won the standard prize of one million.

The next drawing will be on Tuesday, August 27.

This year, only two Mega Millions jackpots have been won: on March 26 in New Jersey and on June 4 in Illinois.

This is the only lottery game that has produced six jackpots over $1 billion, all in different states. The largest was won in Florida on August 8, 2023, and was $1.602 billion.

The drawing takes place on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 PM ET.

Tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, DC, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They cost two dollars, and the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 24.
