Two people were injured, one of them seriously, as a result of the collision between a truck and a tractor on a road in Manicaragua, in the province of Villa Clara, on the afternoon of this Wednesday.
According to reports from local media and journalists, the accident occurred around 2 p.m. on the Juan Bruno Zayas Sur highway in Manicaragua, when a Roman truck from the Construction Maintenance Company collided with a Yunk tractor from the TABACUBA Company.
As a result of the collision, the truck plunged into the void from a bridge over the Arimao River.
The drivers of both vehicles were injured, and the truck driver was the most affected with serious injuries, according to the communicator Henry Omar Pérez on his Facebook profile.
Photos published by the CMHW station in Villa Clara show the truck overturned on a river tributary and the tractor and its trailer crashed against the railing of the bridge. Both vehicles appear to have severe damage, judging by the images.
This Wednesday has been a rather tragic day on Cuban roads. In the morning, nine people were reported injured, one of them in critical condition with life-threatening injuries and another in serious condition, as a result of a massive accident that occurred in the municipality of Palma Soriano, Santiago de Cuba.
A bus from the company Transtur Habana, carrying 40 people from the capital to Santiago, collided with a trailer from EMGEF Generación de energía eléctrica Grupos electrógenos FUEL-OIL, which was heading towards Contramaestre.
After the collision, the bus crashed into a house. Its driver, Henry Yanes Díaz, 36 years old and a resident of El Cotorro, Havana, was in critical condition due to his injuries. The passenger Ricardo Matos Reyes, 58 years old and a resident of the city of Guantánamo, was reported as serious. Seven other people suffered minor injuries.
Also in Santiago de Cuba, this Tuesday, two motorcycles collided in the city center and both drivers were injured.
In Havana, a young motorcyclist lost his life while driving on Fifth Avenue in Miramar.
A dramatic accident between two vehicles, one of which ended up overturned on its roof, was also reported on Tuesday near the town of Corojo, in the Baraguá municipality, Ciego de Ávila.
Traffic accidents recorded a decrease of 13% (543 less) in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2023, according to official statistics.
However, incidents on the country’s roads and streets do not cease, and the public is concerned about the frequency with which they occur and their high cost in loss of human lives and materials.
