Amanda continues to recover in Spain: she sits alone, mumbles words, and takes a few steps.

"The Cuban civil society, that immense community of Cubans scattered all over the world, can today feel very proud of what we have accomplished."

Six months after undergoing a liver transplant in Spain, the Cuban girl Amanda Lemus Ortiz continues to recover and is starting to show small improvements.

Activist Yamilka Lafita (Lara Crofs) shared two photos of the minor with her parents on Friday, in which her progress after receiving the medical treatment required for her illness can be seen.

"Amanda is a happy girl, and her parents are happy as well. The selflessness and sacrifice of both her and all those who supported me in this campaign continue to bear fruit," Lara said on her Facebook.

According to the report, the little girl is eating a lot and is very active. Her mother takes her to the hospital weekly, and the doctors are very pleased with her current health condition.

"She can already sit up on her own, although she still has her orthopedic chair and is gradually starting to babble some words (she is being attended to by a speech therapist) and doing physiotherapy; she can already take a few steps," he detailed.

"The Cuban civil society, that immense community of Cubans scattered throughout the world, can today feel very proud of what we have achieved. #AmandaVive stopped being a dream, a hashtag some time ago, to become a reality that makes us euphoric with so much happiness," concluded the activist.

At the end of August, Lara reported that Amanda is already living a normal life with her parents in Madrid, although she regularly goes to the hospital for check-ups.

"Mila and Enmanuel now live with the tranquility and happiness of watching their daughter grow up as healthy as possible. (...) Mila tells me that she is very hyperactive and always laughing, she is happy. She can already sit up on her own, eats really well, and if everything continues as it is, next year she might even walk," the activist specified.

On July 15, exactly four months after the liver transplant, a photo emerged showing the girl's physical change.

In the image, she appeared smiling, sitting in a stroller, much chubbier and with a sparkle in her eyes, very different from those photos in Cuba, when she was very thin and unwell, with a striking yellowish tint in her eyes due to her illness.

The story of the fight to save Amanda's life began in January of this year when her mother, in a post that went viral, publicly apologized to her daughter for bringing her into a country where the healthcare system could not meet her medical needs.

Amanda was suffering from a severe liver disease and urgently needed a liver transplant, but the limitations in Cuba prevented her from being transplanted, so a humanitarian visa was requested for her.

After several weeks of a campaign supported by activists, independent media, and generous Cubans, the necessary funds were raised for Amanda and her parents to travel to Spain, where a hospital had accepted the case.

In March, Amanda arrived in Madrid, and the doctors, shocked by the serious deterioration of her health, indicated that precious time had been lost in the treatment of her illness.

On March 15, Amanda underwent a liver transplant, a successful operation that marked the beginning of her recovery, which has not been free of setbacks and complications, but which the girl ultimately overcame.
