Amanda Lemus Ortiz, the Cuban girl suffering from biliary atresia, a serious liver disease, has faced numerous challenges in her quest for a liver transplant. Her diagnosis prompted her family to mobilize extensively to secure appropriate treatment outside of Cuba, due to the limitations of the local healthcare system. Thanks to the active campaign led by activist Yamilka Lafita and the support of the international community, Amanda obtained a humanitarian visa and was transferred to Spain, where her father offered to be the donor for the transplant.
In Spain, Amanda has undergone several surgeries and treatments, demonstrating remarkable resilience and a strong desire to live. Despite the decline in her health, her condition has begun to stabilize thanks to the medical care she has received. The Cuban community and people from around the world continue to support her family in covering the expenses related to her treatment and time abroad. Amanda's story not only highlights a young girl's struggle for life but also the solidarity of many people united to help her.
