Karolina, a Cuban girl who spent more than a year and a half living in a hospital due to the lack of adequate housing to address her medical condition, passed away this Tuesday in Artemisa, where she lived with her mother.

The youngest, three years old, suffered from spinal muscular atrophy and was permanently connected to a ventilator.

Last year it was revealed that the minor was staying at the San Cristóbal Hospital in the province of Artemisa because her mother, a 27-year-old woman, did not have a home that met the conditions to care for the girl.

Last year, his story moved thousands of Cubans who, in less than a month, raised 5,000 dollars and bought him a house that met the necessary requirements for his care through the Facebook group "Bendecidos para Bendecir."

The news of his passing was confirmed by the internet user Yoselis Lugo, who published the case last year.

"Today has been a very sad day for me, a girl who touched my heart and everyone else's left this world unexpectedly. Yesterday your mom showed me a picture of you with your happy little face, and today I receive this bad news. Rest in peace, my Karol," she stated on her Facebook wall.

The case of Karolina is a reflection of the deep economic and social crisis that Cuba is going through, where requests for help on social media to obtain medications, medical supplies, and even housing for vulnerable individuals are becoming increasingly frequent.
