A total of 35 electric tricycles, distributed across two new routes, began operating this Monday in Havana with an experimental schedule from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The company Taxis-Cuba announced on Facebook that this new service will be evaluated based on the duration of the batteries of the tricycles, with the aim of determining its viability and sustainability in the long term.

In addition, he explained that each route will have 10 tricycles, the first from the Clinical Hospital of 26 to 23 and 26, and the second from that point to Coppelia, at the intersection of 23 and L.

The published note indicated that the route of Línea Street, which previously ended at the Focsa building, has been extended to the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital, thus improving access to transportation in the city.

Finally, the company reported that the cost of the service is 10 pesos per passenger, similar to other routes in operation.

In September, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Minister of Transport, announced on Facebook that the incorporation of these 35 electric tricycles would allow for the implementation of two new routes, in an attempt to alleviate the deep passenger mobility crisis affecting Havana.

Rodríguez reported days ago that the fleet of electric tricycles for public passenger transport in Havana had increased with the addition of 35 new vehicles, which will join the 118 already operating in the city.

He pointed out that currently these means operate 17 routes across eight municipalities.

Amid rising inflation and the public transport crisis on the island, the Cuban regime announced that starting August 15, the cost of electric tricycle services in the capital would increase to 10.00 CUP per passenger.

This decision, informed by the General Directorate of Transportation of Havana, marked a significant increase from the initial price of 4.00 CUP that was set when the service began in 2020.
