Forces from the Ministry of the Interior and the Fire Department extinguished a fire that broke out on Sunday morning at the La Francia Moderna store, part of the CIMEX S.A. corporation, located along the central boulevard of the city.
The quick response of both the store employees and the firefighters ensured that there were no casualties or injuries. However, the incident has resulted in significant economic losses, reported the official newspaper Cinco de Septiembre on Facebook.
According to preliminary reports, the cause of the fire appears to have been a short circuit in an air conditioning unit. However, the statement specified that authorities are continuing their investigations to confirm this hypothesis and clarify the details of the incident.
Additionally, it was noted that measures were taken to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes, which could have worsened the situation even further.
According to the Facebook profile "Alejandro Noticias Cuba", the fire started "around 7:45 AM at the store located on the boulevard in Cienfuegos."
Among the shared images, there is a significant amount of products, mainly canned goods, that were completely charred by the flames of the fire.
The user Flexon Artista on Facebook shared a video showing firefighters extinguishing the blaze.
"The alarm was going off in the early morning when I passed by here," she indicated.
The official telecenter Perlavisión, also on Facebook, shared some images of the incident: "A fire of moderate proportions was extinguished this Sunday morning at the La Francia Moderna store. There were no injuries, damage is being assessed, and the causes are under investigation."
Recently, a fire broke out at the headquarters of the Gaceta Oficial de la República de Cuba publishing house, located at 352 Zanja Street, corner of Escobar, in Centro Habana.
In September, a fire in Old Havana caused by the explosion of a motorbike resulted in one Cuban fatality and several damages to the house located at 59 Picota Street, between Acosta and Jesús María.
