The National Defense Civil Staff established the Informative Phase for the provinces of Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, Granma, Las Tunas, and Camagüey on the afternoon of this Saturday due to the proximity of Hurricane Oscar, which has reached category one on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

According to the Forecast Center of the Meteorological Institute, Oscar is maintaining a course between west and west-southwest, gaining in intensity, which will cause a gradual deterioration in weather conditions in the eastern provinces.

It is expected that the tenth hurricane of the season will make landfall at some point on the northern coast of Holguín.

In the coming hours, showers, rain, thunderstorms, and an increase in wind strength are expected, as well as swell in the northern areas of Guantánamo, Holguín, and Las Tunas, with possible coastal flooding in low-lying areas, including the boardwalk of Baracoa, cited the government portal Cubadebate.

In light of this situation, the authorities have called on the population to stay informed about the evolution of the hurricane through the media and official profiles on social networks, and to diligently follow the instructions of local authorities and Civil Defense.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz also stated on his X profile: "In light of the proximity of Hurricane Oscar to the eastern provinces, we are taking all measures. We ask our people to stay alert, remain informed, and follow the instructions of local authorities."

Both the Meteorology Institute and the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources maintain continuous monitoring of this weather phenomenon to ensure the safety of the population, the official note detailed.

The proximity of the tenth hurricane of the current hurricane season to the east of Cuba occurs amid the chaotic reality of the island, which has been experiencing a massive blackout and continuous internet outages since Friday.

Many villages have no way to get information amid the widespread blackout in the Caribbean nation.
