The Argentine star Lionel Messi and Inter Miami received big news on Saturday: they will play in the 2025 Club World Cup following the invitation extended by the International Federation of Football (FIFA).
After the end of the regular MLS season, in which they set a record of points with 74, FIFA president Gianni Infantino officially announced that the Florida team will participate in the World Cup as the host country's representative.
According to the team's post on their website, Infantino congratulated the group for winning the Supporters Shield 2024, highlighting their exciting style of play and massive support throughout the state of Florida.
"It is an honor to announce that Inter Miami, as one of the best clubs in the world, will participate in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025," Infantino stated.
Of course, the club highlighted the news on its social media and shared FIFA's post on the X platform.
The tournament will feature 32 teams, of which 31 have already secured their spots, and the final place will be decided with the final of the CONMEBOL Libertadores on November 30, 2024.
The first match of the Club World Cup will take place - precisely - in Miami on June 15, 2025, an occasion that Jorge Mas, owner of Inter Miami, described as a "monumental milestone" for the club and its fans.
This event will be a unique opportunity for Inter Miami to compete against some of the best teams in the world and marks an important achievement in its short but successful trajectory in international football.
