Two microsystems in the province of Holguín were affected during the passage of tropical storm Oscar through that eastern territory, according to the authorities of that province.

"Due to the weather conditions, 2 microsystems were lost in the municipalities of Moa and Holguín, respectively, and their recovery will be worked on as soon as the weather allows," noted a report from the local newspaper Ahora, which covers the situation in the province in light of Oscar's passage.

"The electrical system is being consolidated in the western part, and work is being done tirelessly so that, when the weather conditions allow, the startup of the Lidio Ramón Pérez thermoelectric plant, located in Felton, Mayarí municipality, can begin," the media outlet reported.

Regarding the entry of the Felton, Eric Milanés Quinzán, director of the thermal power plant, pointed out that "block 1 is ready to start when the conditions are met, that is, the energy with sufficient power to carry out that operation. We are waiting for today to arrive."

For the Cuban authorities, Felton is a significant unit in terms of energy transmission to the east of the country, an area where the electricity supply has not arrived for more than 72 hours.

Around two in the afternoon on this Monday, the Antonio Guiteras Thermoelectric Central (CTE) in the province of Matanzas came back online, according to a brief message from the Cuban Electricity Company.

In the Midday News, engineer Lázaro Guerra Hernández, director of Electric Power at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, had confirmed the start-up of Guiteras, although he clarified that it "will operate limited to 120 MW."

The official also clarified that "even if the system is interconnected, there will not be enough availability to meet all the demands," citing issues with fuel supply.

On its part, the exit of tropical storm Oscar, which has been affecting the country since Sunday afternoon, is expected for late this Monday near the municipalities in the east of Holguín (Moa and Gibara), with strong swells forecasted.
