"How long?": Cuban in Uruguay expresses his anguish over the situation on the island

"The cutest thing is, if you go out to the street, you already know they'll put you in jail."

A Cuban living in Uruguay (@yudielkaren1) lamented in an emotional video on TikTok that has quickly begun to generate reactions about the terrible situation in Cuba.

In the video, where he is seen sitting on the grass accompanied by his mother, the young man expresses the frustration and pain of those who, although they have left the island, still feel the suffering of their family and friends who remain there.

"When we came here, Cuba was in bad shape, and now we are wondering how long this will last," says @yudielkaren1, referring to the deep crisis on the island, which is no longer just affecting the economy but is worsened by the lack of electricity, water, and food. "It's total blackout, there is no water, there is no food, there is nothing, and on top of that, firewood is being provided for people to cook. It's already pitiful, this is the last straw," she adds in desperation.

His mother also intervenes in the video, pointing out how difficult it is to be away from the island but still suffering for what happens there. "We are here, but we are suffering as if we were there because it's not easy. It really is not easy," she comments. The young man adds, "it's a headache, an abuse what is happening to Cubans, it no longer has a name."

The video has generated a wave of comments, some supportive and others questioning the causes of the crisis. One user pointed out: "The best thing you could do is leave Cuba, but the most important thing was bringing your mother with you so she could be free and not go through that situation. I know it’s difficult, but enjoy that you have your mother with you." Another commented with frustration: "It’s the fault of the Cuban government, the United States has nothing to do with this, God!"

Some users were more critical of the Cuban regime, while others offered prayers for the situation on the island: "I ask God that the people of Cuba and also of Venezuela can live in peace, calmly, without suffering from hunger, or lack of electricity or water," expressed another follower of the creator.

There were also those who made comparisons with other countries. One comment said: "Don't forget that Venezuela was in the same situation and is now doing better than Uruguay and Argentina," while another insisted on collective action: "Only a few go out into the streets, which is why they get arrested. The whole people should go out. They can't arrest everyone."

In addition, several people outside of Cuba shared their empathy for the difficult situation the island is going through. "Today while sitting outside, I was telling my sister and my daughter this: we are here eating ice cream and in Cuba they have neither light nor food. Just so you know, I am Uruguayan, but it hurts to see so much injustice in the world," commented a user from Uruguay. Another added: "Strength to our Cuban brothers, it hurts us because you are a little bit Uruguayan now."

The electrical situation in Cuba remains critical, with power outages affecting most provinces, as recently reported by the Electric Company of Havana. Many areas, such as Santiago de Cuba and Holguín, continue to experience blackouts due to system instability and high demand. In Havana, multiple breakdowns have been recorded in various municipalities, further exacerbating the situation that Cubans face daily.
