However, the search for dozens of missing persons continues, although the government has not reported any official figures.

The Cuban activist Yamilka Lafita (Lara Crofs), who had two close relatives missing since the severe floods left by Hurricane Oscar in the municipality of San Antonio del Sur, updated early today that her brother and nephew have been found alive.

"Just popping in to say that my brother and my nephew showed up since late yesterday afternoon. They have some bruises and were dehydrated, but nothing more," said Lafita, who thanked everyone for their prayers and concern regarding the case among her followers.

Previously, when reporting about his relatives, he said that "they were helping the neighbors escape when the waters covered them."

Fortunately, both have already been located safe and sound.

The activist, who has been coordinating the shipment of aid to Guantánamo, took the opportunity this Friday to reiterate the addresses where aid will be collected until Monday, because on Tuesday the transport will leave for the easternmost of the Cuban provinces.

The tragedy continues after the passage of Hurricane Oscar through the Cuban province of Guantánamo, where rescue efforts are ongoing in search of entire families that have gone missing, according to reports from residents, although authorities have yet to mention the existence of any missing persons.

Cuban authorities initially confirmed that six people lost their lives in San Antonio del Sur, following the intense rains and the damage caused by the hurricane, including a mother and her five-year-old daughter.

Subsequently, a seventh victim was reported in the municipality of Imías, which was also devastated by the meteorological phenomenon.

Miguel Díaz-Canel publicly lamented the deaths and indicated that rescue and damage assessment efforts continue in the most affected areas, many of which remain flooded.

The coincidence of Oscar's passage through the eastern region with the collapse of the National Electric Power System meant that hundreds of thousands of Cubans did not receive accurate information about the meteorological event, a situation that raised alarms among civil society, which recognized the risk this posed to the inhabitants of that region.
