A Cuban man in Miami has been arrested on charges of shooting his ex-wife.

A Cuban man was arrested this Sunday by Hialeah police, accused of attempted murder for shooting his ex-wife multiple times at her home in Kendall following an altercation, authorities reported.

The man, identified as Pedro Núñez, 47 years old, admitted that he argued with his ex-partner and shot her at least four times in a hallway of the house, until the woman's body fell against the door, causing it to open and collapse inside the property, according to the arrest report cited by El Nuevo Herald.

After shooting his ex-wife, the Cuban fled the scene and called his father to tell him that he had killed her, believing she was dead, according to a report released on Monday by the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD).

Núñez and his victim, whose name has not been revealed, have a 10-year-old son together.

The events took place early Sunday morning at a residence located in the 6200 block of Southwest 109th Avenue, where police officers found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds shortly after 3:30 a.m.

The woman had injuries to her torso, limbs, and buttocks that endangered her life, and she was urgently taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital by Miami-Dade firefighters.

While losing and regaining consciousness, the victim managed to tell the authorities that her ex-husband had shot her, according to the report.

The police reported that the woman underwent surgery this Sunday and remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition. She was scheduled to have another surgery on Monday.

A tenant of the residence was the one who alerted the authorities when, at approximately 3:34 a.m., they arrived at the house and found the front door open. Then, upon opening the door to the efficiency they rent, they saw a lot of blood on the floor, prompting them to go outside and call 911.

While the Miami-Dade officers were at the residence, the Hialeah Police Department announced that the suspect had surrendered in their jurisdiction and was in their custody. He also handed over the firearm he had used in the shooting.

Subsequently, Núñez was transferred to the specialized domestic violence unit of the Miami-Dade Police Department, which took over the investigation.

The Cuban was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight jail in Miami-Dade and faces a charge of attempted murder with a firearm. He was scheduled to appear in court this Monday.
