A Cuban resident in Miami, identified as Wilder Valido Mercado, was arrested for having sexual relations with a minor and then threatening to kill her sister if she reported him to the police.
According to the arrest report, consulted by the América TeVe channel, the individual and the teenager had been in a romantic relationship for at least 10 months, since the young woman was 16 years old.
After a fight between the two, the police intervened, and now the accused faces numerous charges, including engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor, victim tampering, and interfering with custody.
"On this day, there is a dispute and they call the police. When they start talking to her, she says that they have a relationship, but it is our duty to report it to the sexual battery department, and with this information, they press charges against him," explained Mike Vega, spokesperson for the Miami police.
After this initial encounter with the authorities, the man called the victim to threaten her, stating he would kill her sister if she did not drop the charges.
The young woman called the police again, and they set a trap to obtain her statement regarding the threat, the source indicates.
"We told him to call the guy and tell him that he dropped the case, and if he was still going to kill the sister, then he said no," Vega recounted.
Although the teenager's father was aware of the relationship, the officer stated that in Florida "a minor cannot engage in sexual relations with an adult (over 18 years old), even if their family knows about it."
The accused has a criminal record since 2021 for drug possession, petty theft, and driving without a license.
Valido Mercado was granted a bail of 11,000 dollars on Friday in a Miami court.
