The damage to the La Farola viaduct, one of the main access routes to the city of Baracoa, continues after the passage of Hurricane Oscar and the ongoing rains affecting the province of Guantánamo.

Radio Guantánamo reported this Tuesday through its Facebook profile that the Chief of the Eastern Army, Major General Eugenio Rabilero Aguilera, visited the La Farola viaduct.

There, alongside the Minister of Construction, he assessed on-site the joint actions being carried out by the engineering units of the FAR and the teams from the Ministry of Construction to rehabilitate this important communication route, which, more than a week after Hurricane Oscar, remains unresolved.

Juana Eglis Fernández Louit shared a gallery of images on the social media platform X, showing that the persistent rains are still causing landslides that are impacting traffic on the famous La Farola viaduct, regarded as one of the seven wonders of civil engineering in Cuba.

A report from the state-run Televisión Cubana updated the damage currently identified in the province of Guantánamo as a result of Hurricane Oscar's impact in recent days.

The governor of Guantánamo, Alisa Saárez Torreblanca, reported that a total of 56 kilometers of roads have been affected and more than 10,500 homes have sustained some type of damage.

He also noted that, in the electric sector, more than 67% of those affected in the province have already regained their power supply.

Regarding the school year, it was explained that more than 440 educational centers in the municipalities that were not affected by the cyclone were able to resume classes. However, the 175 buildings that suffered damage will do so on November 4th.
