The Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) warned this Sunday about the presence of a trough in the lower levels of the troposphere over the Dominican Republic, which has caused showers and thunderstorms in the eastern region of Cuba.
In a note published on Facebook, the Forecast Center reported that the provinces most affected by the rains have been Guantánamo, with totals of 57.8 millimeters in Jamal and 63.7 millimeters in Palenque de Yateras. Additionally, precipitation was reported in the province of Camagüey during the early hours of the morning.
INSMET highlighted that this system will continue to cause rainfall, mainly along the northern coast and in Guantánamo, throughout this Sunday.
In its television segment, the center reported that there will be chances of rain in the north of Holguín and Las Tunas, "which will extend into the interior and south of this region in the afternoon."
Additionally, he pointed out that in the west and center, the morning will begin with few clouds, except in areas along the northern coast where it will be partly cloudy. However, "in the afternoon, much of these regions will be partly cloudy, with some areas becoming overcast and experiencing isolated showers."
On the other hand, INSMET reported that there is an area of low pressure in the southern Caribbean Sea, characterized by abundant cloudiness and thunderstorms, which, although still disorganized, has a high probability of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.
In the rest of the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico, no cyclonic developments are expected in the next 12 to 24 hours, the monitoring center indicated.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported this Sunday that a low-pressure system located in the southwestern Caribbean has a high chance of developing (90 percent) and becoming a tropical depression in the coming days.
The NHC warned that those in the western Caribbean Sea should closely monitor the progress of this system, as tropical storm warnings or alerts may be issued later today or overnight for some areas of the region.
Due to the heavy rains affecting eastern Cuba, the National Civil Defense Headquarters decided to establish the Informative Phase across the entire region this Saturday.
The phase came into effect at 10:00 AM for the provinces of Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, Granma, and Las Tunas.
On Friday, the
The agency emphasized that, regardless of cyclone development, rain and thunderstorms are imminent, especially in the eastern region, which has already experienced significant rainfall in the last days of October.
