The reservoirs in the province of Guantánamo are currently 47.74% full, holding 163,744 cubic hectometers of water. This situation may change in the coming hours due to the forecast of rain brought on by a trough in the eastern region.

Journalist Miguel Reyes reported on Facebook that the Los Asientos dam is at 100% capacity, accumulating 17.88 hectometers cubed and naturally releasing 40.5 hectometers through a trench-type spillway.

The Faustino Pérez reservoir is at 93.33% of its capacity, holding 24,045 cubic hectometers out of a maximum of 26, while the Pozo Azul dam is at 92.99% full, with 13.75 cubic hectometers of a total of 14.8.

The Clotilde dam is 72.46% full, with 4.42 cubic hectometers out of a total of 6.1, while the Jaibo dam is at 49.36% of its capacity, with 59.35 cubic hectometers out of a total of 160.

Finally, Reyes indicated that the La Yaya dam is at 26.26% of its capacity, with 41.94 hectometers cubed out of a total of 160.

However, these accumulations are expected to increase in the coming hours.

The Forecasting Center of the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) issued a warning this Sunday regarding the presence of a trough in the lower levels of the troposphere over the Dominican Republic, which has caused showers and thunderstorms in the eastern region of Cuba.

In a note published on Facebook, the Forecast Center reported that the provinces most affected by the rains have been Guantánamo, with totals of 57.8 millimeters in Jamal and 63.7 millimeters in Palenque de Yateras. Additionally, precipitation was reported in the province of Camagüey during the early hours of the morning.

The INSMET noted that this system will continue to cause rainfall, primarily along the northern coast and in Guantánamo, throughout this Sunday.

In response to the intense rainfall affecting eastern Cuba, the National Civil Defense General Staff decided to establish the Informative Phase across the entire region this Saturday.

Also since Saturday, Cuban authorities ordered the mass evacuation of residents from San Antonio del Sur to the city of Guantánamo.

On Friday, INSMET issued an Early Alert Notice due to atmospheric and oceanic conditions favorable for the formation of a low-pressure area in the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, which could affect the Island in the coming days.
